Summary:

Beehive design and fundamentals of beekeeping
Date:

May 2018

Description:

I've always admired the skill and finesse with which bees construct their hives. There are many parameters to take into account when designing a accommodation for a beehive. If the clearances are wrong the colony will start and do their own thing. Each gap larger than 2.2 bee height will be filled with either wax cells or propolis. Avoiding the use of ferromagnetic materials. Making sure that hive inspection sessions are as non-disruptive as possible and controlling varroa mites are all things to take into account when building the hive.

In 2018 I've logged and shared the progress on the Dave Hakkens forum. Feel free to take a look for more info.
